What are the best destinations for solo female travel?

 Photo Location: East Java, Indonesia
Geography
As a solo traveler, I’ve spent years exploring destinations that combine safety, vibrant social scenes, and unforgettable adventures. From bustling cities to serene islands, I’ve scouted places that are perfect for women traveling alone: offering fun activities, welcoming communities, and diverse experiences. These spots not only let you explore at your own pace but also provide opportunities to connect with like-minded travelers. Here are my top recommendations for solo female travelers.

1.    Thailand (Southeast Asia): Thailand is a solo traveler’s paradise, offering a mix of vibrant cities, lush jungles, and postcard-perfect islands. Chiang Mai in the north is ideal for connecting with culture, whether you’re staying at an ashram or trekking through the hills. Pai is known as the Pai hole because you’ll never want to leave and the southern islands, like Koh Phangan, are great for relaxation and meeting other travelers. Plus, the affordable cost of living means you can enjoy authentic pad Thai and massages daily without breaking the bank. My time exploring Northern Thailand, including stays with monks, left me deeply inspired.

 2.     Indonesia (Southeast Asia): This archipelago is rich in diversity, from Sumatra’s wildlife-filled jungles to Bali’s spiritual retreats. Bukit Lawang in Sumatra is perfect for eco-tourists, while Bali’s Ubud offers yoga, art, and a chance to immerse yourself in wellness culture. There’s a great backpackers route that goes through the country so you’ll never be far from other travelers. Komodo Island tour is a must. The affordability means you can splurge on experiences like scuba diving or volcano trekking.

   3.    Portugal (Europe): Portugal is a gem for solo female travelers looking for charm and safety. Lisbon offers a mix of historical landmarks and lively nightlife, while Porto’s cobbled streets and riverside cafes are perfect for a relaxed vibe. Don’t miss the Algarve for its dramatic coastline and pristine beaches. Portugal is an excellent starting point for exploring Europe due to its friendly locals and laid-back culture.

   4.     Tanzania (Africa): From the breathtaking challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to the relaxed, turquoise beaches of Zanzibar, Tanzania is full of adventure. The warm hospitality of Tanzanians makes this a special destination. Whether you’re exploring local markets in Stone Town or catching wildlife on safari, it’s a great introduction to East Africa’s diverse beauty. The warm, friendly locals in Zanzibar made me feel at home.

Testimonials

I can’t sing enough praises about Hannah’s travel planning! I have told everyone I know about her services – and everyone is always shocked and how much she helps with for such a low price. Hannah planned me a 6 week trip in between matching for residency and graduating from medical school. I was able to go all around Japan, southern Thailand, and northern Vietnam. From the beginning, she was kind, patient, and adaptable as my ideas changed quickly. Throughout my trip, my dad, brother, and best friend all come visit me at different times and she planned each section of the trip perfectly for their personalities! She even found an English speaking fly fishing guide in Japan for my dad! She made so many changes for me during the trip as things came up, like when I realized I wanted to work scuba diving into my itinerary, spend more time in HaNoi, or change my HaGiang loop dates. She never made me feel like a bother even though it was so much work for her to make all these changes and do so much research. I did the larger package that included day-to-day planning and it was so worth it. She found me the most incredible hostels - I was easily able to make friends at every stop along the way! And when I needed a break from the hostel life, she was able to find really great guesthouses/cheap hotels. She had great recommendations about good food in the area or secret beaches to not miss. A super underrated bonus was the organized to-do list she made while trip planning. I was super busy with residency interviews during most of the planning process and she made prioritized lists for me to check in on to ensure nothing fell through the cracks. She checked in on me numerous times throughout the trip and truly cared so much about me having the absolute best time. I cannot say enough good things about Hannah and her work! It is such a steal for all of the things that are included in her packages. I will absolutely be booking her again!
